A White Lady is a type of female ghost , dressed in all white reportedly seen in rural areas and associated with some local legend of tragedy. While White Lady legends are found in many countries around the world, they are most prominent in parts of the United States, Ireland and Great Britain. Common to many of these legends is the theme of loss of a daughter, husband or father and a sense of purity before death as opposed to the Lady in Red ghost. In popular medieval legend , a White Lady is fabled to appear by day as well as by night in a house in which a family member is soon to die.
Missing white woman syndrome is a phenomenon noted by social scientists and media commentators of the extensive media coverage , especially in television , of missing person cases involving young, white , upper-middle-class women or girls. The phenomenon is defined as the Western media 's undue focus on upper-middle-class white women who disappear, with the disproportionate degree of coverage they receive being compared to cases of missing women of color , women of lower social classes and missing men or boys. PBS news anchor Gwen Ifill is said to be the originator of the phrase. Missing white woman syndrome has led to a number of right-wing tough on crime measures that were named for white women who disappeared and were subsequently found harmed. With regard to missing children, statistical research which compares national media reports with FBI data shows that there is marked under-representation of African American children in media reports relative to non-African American children.
A white woman who berated two black women at a North Carolina restaurant with a racial slur said she is not sorry and that she would say it again. Nancy Goodman was caught on video directing the N-word at the women during a confrontation at a Bonefish Grill in North Hills, North Carolina, after Goodman accused them of being too loud. They are the rudest individuals I have ever seen. The two women, Chanda Stewart and Lakesha Shaw, said they were enjoying their dinner when Goodman called them rude and complained that they were being too loud.
