Vanishing Point. Richard C Sarafian 94min. Review Our Score. A former racing driver and ex-cop Barry Newman takes a bet that he can't drive a Dodge Challenger from Denver to San Francisco in 15 hours in this gritty cult s road movie. Newman switches on the ignition, puts his foot down and, stopping only for fuel petrol for the Dodge, amphetamines for him , follows in the wake of Easy Rider and sets out to be a similar essay in alienation, taking in the expected hippy colonies, Hell's Angels and bigoted cops. It has little of Easy Rider's low-budget magic but Newman is suitably charismatic as the driven driver and it's great to see Blazing Saddles star Cleavon Little as a blind DJ who charts the antihero's progress on his local radio show.

He bets his dealer, Jake Lee Weaver , that he will get to San Francisco by pm Saturday, even though the delivery is not due until Monday. He is also a former police officer, who was dishonorably discharged in retaliation for preventing his partner from raping a young woman. Haunted by the surfing death of his girlfriend, Vera, Kowalski now thrives on adrenaline. Driving west across Colorado, Kowalski is pursued by two motorcycle police officers who try to stop him for speeding.
Welcome to the final installment of our Road to Freedom trilogy! Another thing I remembered about it is the white Dodge Challenger! Shortly after, I watched Vanishing Point.
During the s, car delivery driver Kowalski delivers hot rods in record time but always runs into trouble with the highway cops. Yes, I do realise I'm on my own with this one. Opened in alongside Union Pacific Railroad tracks, it leased more than stalls to local growers to sell their produce to grocers and wholesalers. After becoming increasingly dilapidated, the whole area, including the nearby 19th Street Ramp up which Kowalski drives, has been totally redeveloped. Amazingly, this place was real, though about three miles to the northeast, at Brighton Boulevard, on the corner of Columbine Street, in the Elyria-Swansea neighborhood of Denver.
